Eating Disorders Nova Scotia Community Standards and Rules

Eating Disorders Nova Scotia (EDNS) strives to create an environment that is safe and respectful for all community members. We are a pro-recovery, inclusive community, and our community standards are meant to keep this space safe. Comments or posts that break the rules will be deleted. Community members who break the rules may be given a warning, or may be blocked, especially in the case of repeated community standard violations. Please read the below rules before commenting or posting.

Safety

Our page is not moderated 24/7, and is not an appropriate resource for people in an immediate crisis. If you are in crisis please consider the following options.

Mental Health Mobile Crisis Team
1-888-429-8167
Mental Health Mobile Crisis Team (MHMCT) offers support 24/7 for people in mental health crisis, but is specific to Nova Scotia.

Google mental health crisis resources in your area. There may be services in your area that can provide immediate help.

Call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room.

Pro-Recovery

EDNS is pro-recovery. Do not use body-shaming language in reference to yourself or others. Do not post information or tips that might be used to promote, encourage, or support eating disorder thinking or behaviour (i.e. 'pro-ED' information), or that would promote, encourage, or support suicide or self-harm.

Talking about numbers can trigger people in eating disorder recovery and is not allowed. The following number-related subjects are considered inappropriate:
- numbers related to weight or weightloss
- number related to exercise (e.g. duration, repetitions)
- BMI
- calories
- body measurements
- clothing size
- length of time without eating
- number of times purged

Always be respectful

The following guidelines reflect our committment to providing a platform that respects differences of all kinds and is harassment-free.

- Do not post any statement that you know is false, inaccurate, misleading, defamatory, libellous, or in violation of any law.

- Do not use language that may be construed as harassing, threatening, pornographic, abusive, or invasive of a person's privacy.

- Do not post any statement that may be construed as discriminatory on the basis of race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, ability, or any other form of discrimination.

- While you may disagree with another community member's opinion, please be respectful. Abuse, including bullying, will not be tolerated.

Be responsible

Rather than giving people advice (however well intentioned), talk about what you have found helpful in recovery. Do not tell people what they should do, offer medical advice, mention specific medications, or mention the names of clinicians or care providers.

If you have any questions about our community standards, please message us directly.

Hi friends - a gentle reminder not to post any weight loss tips or info on our page or posts. This can be very upsetting/triggering for people in recovery and those still dealing with an active eating disorder. We're pro-recovery here, and any weight loss comments or tips will be hidden/deleted. Thanks for your understanding! ... See MoreSee Less
